A Message from Dr. Dorman
Hi! I’m Dr. Jill Dorman. My educational journey began in 1999 when I graduated from THE Ohio State University with a Bachelor's and Master's in Elementary Education. After teaching in the general education setting for 18 years, I returned to college and earned a Gifted Intervention Specialist License, and I changed school districts for the first time in my career. Two years later, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After a brief and successful battle, I returned to college once again, this time to earn a Principal License along with a second Master's degree from Concordia Chicago. The winter before I was set to graduate, my husband had a life-altering stroke. At that point, I left the classroom and transitioned into administration to better support my family, while continuing my doctoral studies. On December 13, 2024, I graduated with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and officially became Dr. Jill Dorman.
In my spare time, I enjoy writing, and I even wrote a book in 2021 while in graduate school, titled "Be an Overcomer: Even If You Have to Do It Several Times." However, after writing a 150+ page dissertation, the thought of writing another chapter book was not in my interest. However, writing for pleasure is more enjoyable than writing for a doctoral study, so I completed a fiction manuscript I had started, titled Vanished, which is now available on Amazon. I am now utilizing my interest in writing to blog, as well as create courses and resources, to help other educators and parents.
As an educator for almost 30 years, I have witnessed the constant evolution of curriculum, continually seeking the "perfect" system to teach students. One thing my career has taught me is that no two kids learn the same way. Teachers need assistance to differentiate for the wide range of needs in their classrooms. Where does that assistance come from? Some may suggest professional development or resource books. Still, the honest answer is that they need help from other teachers who can provide insight and suggestions based on their own experiences. Thus, the idea for Thrifted Wisdom was born— a one-stop shop for educators and parents to share wisdom, receive tips, and collaborate to provide the best education possible for their students.
